The South Forsyth High School Jazz band has been reborn under the direction of John David and Kenyon Carter. SFHS is very lucky to have these very experienced instructors working with the jazz band and are a vital element to the remergence of the jazz program at South Forsyth. Interest had been building over the last year and Mr. Clark is happy to offer this performance ensemble. There are 25 active members in the group and they will rehearse every Tuesday in the SFHS bandroom. John David
John David is a professional drummer and percussionist based in the Atlanta area. He teaches percussion/drumset at Columbus State University and North Georgia College & State University. He is also an elementary music specialist in the Forsyth County Schools. He holds degrees from Columbus State University, University of Georgia and University of Miami. Kenyon Carter Kenyon Carter (BM Valdosta State University, MM Georgia State University) serves as adjunct professor of saxophone and jazz studies at NGCSU. He has extensive experience teaching students at the middle school, high school and college levels and provides individual private instruction for some of Atlanta's most talented young saxophonists. Kenyon is a professional musician in the Atlanta area, regularly performing with many of Atlanta's most respected jazz groups including CSO Jazz, Jazz Orchestra Atlanta, and the David Brothers Band. He is also the saxophone instructor at the Georgia Center for the Arts and previously served as the Vice President of the Georgia Association for Jazz Education. |
